The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to move forward in the offseason after a miserable year in 2024-25 as injuries decimated the roster. The Sixers do have the No. 3 pick in their possession so that is what will be helpful for them as they look to bounce back.
With that being said, one has to wonder what free agency will look like for Philadelphia. The Sixers have 11 free agents they have to take care of. The cap space will be a bit limited in 2025 after the big spending spree in 2024, so don’t expect the Sixers to be major players in free agency, but they will be looking to keep a number of key free agents.
Up next in this free agency series is Justin Edwards. The undrafted forward out of Kentucky put on a more than solid performance as a rookie in 2024-25 as he averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 45.5% from the floor and 36.3% from deep while starting 26 of the 44 games he played. He was converted to a standard deal with a team option for 2025-26 which the Sixers have until June 29 to make a decision on.
Edwards’ free agency overview
Free agency status: Team option
2025-26 salary: $1.9 million
Prediction: Stays
Reason for the prediction
As mentioned, the Sixers do have a deadline for Edwards and it would be shocking if they declined it. They have this young man on a cheap deal and he showed off way too much potential as a two-way player who did so many positive things for this group on both ends of the floor. As free agency gets closer, the Sixers will certainly look to bring him back. He is somebody who can defend the opposition’s best scorer–which he did on multiple occasions in 2024-25–and showed he can put the ball on the floor. He also showed an ability to be a knock down catch-and-shoot player.
Today’s NBA is all about developing younger players. That is so paramount with the way the CBA is structured and the second apron always around the corner for teams to make it harder to keep players around for a long time. Therefore, keeping somebody like Edwards around and continuing to develop him will be a big point for the Sixers in the future.
