The Los Angeles Lakers made the decision to trade Anthony Davis over a year ago. Davis was traded in exchange for Luka Doncic, along with some other pieces. It is widely regarded as the worst trade in NBA history from the Mavericks‘ perspective.

Doncic is playing at an MVP level with Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Davis has been shut down for months and hasn’t played a single game for the Wizards. Davis was traded to Washington before the trade deadline, as he didn’t even spend a full year in Dallas.

Apparently, one of his former teammates has lost track of him. He had forgotten that Davis was even on the Wizards.

Lakers Forward Forgot Anthony Davis Plays for the Wizards

Rui Hachimura admitted after the Lakers played the Wizards that he forgot Davis even played for Washington. He was surprised to see him on the bench.

“It was funny, though, because during a timeout I was looking at the bench, and I saw AD, and I was shocked. I was like ‘Wait.’ I totally forgot about it, you know?”

Hachimura also used to play in Washington before he was traded to the Lakers. He knows what it’s like to play in Washington. Davis has yet to suit up for the team, and won’t until next season. It’s also unlikely that Trae Young plays for them anymore this season.

Even Hachimura can’t keep up with the saga that AD has been dealing with. Davis won a championship with Los Angeles. He was the second-best player on that team, behind LeBron James. The Lakers beat the Wizards on Monday, even without Doncic.

Doncic was suspended for that game after accumulating too many technical fouls. James had a triple-double, which really helped them win the game. This was an easy game for Doncic to miss since the Wizards don’t want to win games.

Los Angeles Continues to Play at a High Level Without Anthony Davis

The Lakers have rebuilt their team since shipping Davis to Dallas. With Doncic leading the way, the Lakers have the seventh-best offense in the NBA. After beating Washington, Los Angeles has now won 15 of their last 17 games. They sit third in the Western Conference standings.

It’s clear that trading Davis was the right call. Davis has not been able to stay healthy, while Doncic is one of the best offensive players in the league. That calculus alone makes this move the right one. In addition to that, the Lakers have built a good team around Doncic.

This is the best team that LA has had since that 2020 team that won the title in the bubble. With how well they have been playing, they have all of the confidence in the world that they can win the West, even though the Thunder and the Spurs are the favorites to do so.

Staying healthy in the postseason will be the key to them having a shot at upsetting either one of those teams on the way to the NBA Finals. Los Angeles is playing their best at the right time.
