The Boston Celtics are rolling towards the playoffs, even though they are fresh off a tough 112-102 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. While the team is focused on finishing up the regular season on a high note, they likely also took note of a big career move that one of their former players, Malcolm Brogdon, recently made.

Brogdon spent the 2022-23 season with the Celtics, which saw him earn the Sixth Man of the Year Award after he averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 48.4% from the field off the bench. Ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, Brogdon retired from the NBA, but it sounds like he has found himself a new job, as he will be joining his alma mater, the Virginia Cavaliers, in a unique role.
“Malcolm Brogdon has returned to Virginia and has been named the team’s new Strategic Advisor,” Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints shared in a post on X.
After his lone season with the C’s, Brogdon was shipped to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the blockbuster Jrue Holiday trade. Thanks to injuries, though, Brogdon only played in 39 games for Portland before suiting up just 24 times in the 2024-25 season for the Washington Wizards.
When Brogdon retired, the NBA world was relatively surprised, as he seemed like he still had some gas left in the tank. Instead, Brogdon will be kicking off a new career as a basketball executive, and it will be worth keeping tabs on his career as the Celtics continue to contend for championships in the wake of his departure.
