At last, some good news for the Golden State Warriors amid a turbulent season.

With the race to the regular season finish line heating up, things are taking full shape in the NBA. Playoff teams are ready to make a push while lottery-destined clubs begin shifting their focus to the offseason.

The Warriors, however, are effectively in no man’s land. They have been for months.

The team’s season has been marred by injuries, most notably to star swingman Jimmy Butler and superstar point guard Stephen Curry. Golden State has now gone over 70 days and counting since both stars were in the lineup.

The Dubs are locked into the play-in tournament but have some things to sort out before then. The Curry injury dilemma has been a tough one to navigate. The franchise has expressed the importance of the two-time MVP’s return before the playoffs but understands it cannot rush back an aging star.

With seven games left on the 82-game slate, minimal runway remains for Curry, but if he is able to return to action before the start of next week, there is perhaps enough time for the Warriors to at least feel optimistic.

Golden State Warriors finally met with positive Curry injury update

Curry, 38, was re-evaluated for a runner’s knee injury on Friday, March 27. Golden State only vaguely revealed Curry’s status and did not provide a return date. But just days later, a significant development has emerged.

On Tuesday, the 12-time All-Star participated in his first full practice in two months, according to The Athletic’s Nick Friedell.

“Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry went through his first full practice in two months on Tuesday as he continues to rehab from a runner’s knee injury,” Friedell wrote. “Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that Curry will get some 5-on-5 scrimmaging in after practice — a significant step that Curry hasn’t been able to take since leaving a Jan. 30 loss to the Detroit Pistons early.”

Rejoice, Warriors fans, Curry’s return feels more imminent than ever.

Still, a targeted return date has not been established. Curry remains out for now and will miss tomorrow night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs

Head coach Steve Kerr said Curry’s status is “doubtful” for Thursday’s contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers. That is significant news because it is an upgrade from being ruled out. It perhaps suggests Curry could return as soon as Sunday’s home battle against the Houston Rockets

It was feeling doubtful with every passing day.

With many not expecting news on Curry until later in the week, this is a big sigh of relief. Warriors fans were beginning to worry Curry’s chances of playing again this season were diminishing fast.

For a player Curry’s age, this is par for the course. The two-plus months he’s been sidelined shouldn’t be surprising considering the nature of the injury and the mileage on Curry’s body.

Given his age and legacy, Golden State has wisely kept it slow and steady with Curry. While the team’s season is far from over, it’s hard to justify rushing Curry back merely to prepare for a play-in game after he hasn’t played a minute of intense basketball in over 60 days.

It is very possible more news regarding Curry’s return could be learned after a couple of days.

The Warriors sure can use their superstar back on the court.
