A Shelby County Board of Commissioners vote Monday, March 30, signaled the subtle progress local governments are making toward a long-term lease with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The vote, a resolution asking the Tennessee General Assembly to change how Shelby County can allocate its hotel-motel taxes in the future, represented another necessary step toward funding some of the $550 million in FedExForum renovations.

The resolution asks the state Legislature to allow Shelby County to continue collecting hotel-motel taxes until 2050 or until a National Basketball Association franchise (the Memphis Grizzlies) is no longer a tenant in an indoor sports facility owned by the county and city (FedExForum).
