The New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Clippers have emerged as potential options for LeBron James if the superstar explores free agency this summer.

Speculation around LeBron James‘ future continues to grow as the 41-year-old veteran superstar approaches a free-agency decision this summer.

Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule

According to ESPN, several intriguing teams have been mentioned as possible new destinations should the four-time champion decide to explore options outside the Los Angeles Lakers.

Among the most notable landing spots for him are the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Knicks could offer historic opportunity

A move to the Knicks would give James a chance to play in Madison Square Garden, an arena he has repeatedly described as his favorite to perform in.

ESPN reported that joining New York could combine the star power and spotlight he enjoyed with the Golden State Warriors-era buzz around the league, while also providing an easier championship path in the Eastern Conference, similar to his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, ESPN noted that a team source questioned whether the Knicks would be willing to dramatically reshape their roster for what might only be one season of James.

New York’s current core – Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges – is already in its late-20s prime and building continuity together.

Adding James would immediately shift the franchise into full win-now mode, with the ultimate prize being the Knicks’ first championship since 1973.

Nuggets seen as strong basketball fit

Another option floated by multiple sources to ESPN is the Nuggets, where James could team up with three-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

One Western Conference executive told ESPN that Jokic might be the only player in the league who matches James in basketball IQ, making the pairing especially intriguing.

Denver previously pursued James in 2018 before he ultimately joined the Lakers.

If the move were to happen now, a sign-and-trade scenario could also benefit Los Angeles by bringing in players such as Peyton Watson or Cameron Johnson.

A core featuring Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon alongside James would likely make the Nuggets one of the top championship favorites.

Clippers connection through Tyronn Lue

The possibility of James joining the Clippers may seem unlikely, particularly because he has long been associated with the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Still, ESPN noted that the LA Clippers could offer him similar off-court benefits while remaining in Los Angeles.

The team is coached by Tyronn Lue, who won the 2016 championship with James in Cleveland and still maintains a strong relationship with him.

Depending on the outcome of the NBA’s investigation into Kawhi Leonard’s endorsement situation, league personnel speculated the Clippers might even have financial flexibility to make a competitive offer.
