Brooklyn Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe was on his way to having a career season before he tore the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) in his left thumb and requiring surgery to address the issue. Sharpe has not played for Brooklyn since a 126-115 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Mar. 9, but he took some time to give an update on where he is in his rehab.
“I feel pretty good… Rehab is going smooth. I can’t wait to get back on the court full-time,” Sharpe said during a mid-game interview for Tuesday’s 117-86 loss to the Charlotte Hornets. While Sharpe was wearing a wrap on his left hand during the win over the Grizzlies, Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez believed that Sharpe suffered his UCL tear in that game, but he also showed plenty of growth this season along the way.
“Just comfortable with the ball. Making decisions with the ball, putting the ball on the ground, passes, three-point shooting,” Sharpe said when asked by YES Network’s Sarah Kustok about what has led to his growth this year. “I feel like I got a lot more to me, but like I said, everything comes with confidence. I’m trying to build [more confidence] this summer to have another great year next year.
Sharpe, 24, had another solid season as the backup center to starter Nic Claxton as he averaged 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 60.1% from the field and 67.8% from the free-throw line. Since the calendar turned to 2026, Sharpe took his game to the next level as he averaged 10.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 59.7% from the floor and 70.4% from the charity stripe.
Since Sharpe has been unable to play, Fernandez has had to rely on Claxton along with players like forward Noah Clowney, rookie Danny Wolf, and Two-Way Chaney Johnson to fill some of those backup center minutes. The Nets have not given an official update as to Sharpe’s recovery timeline, but it seems like he’s doing well as he prepares for next season.
