WASHINGTON (7News) — The Washington Wizards apologized Thursday after a half-time skit, that was meant as an April Fools‘ joke, didn’t go over well with fans.

During the Wizards half-time show on Wednesday, a blindfolded “fan” was brought onto the court and told if he could make the shot he would win $10,000. The fan missed the shot but the narrator led him to believe he won the money. After removing his blindfold, the shot was replayed on a jumbotron showing the fan that he actually missed it. The narrator then revealed it was an April Fool’s joke.

The joke didn’t go over so well with some fans who were left outraged over the incident.

On Thursday, the Wizards issued a statement explaining the incident was scripted and the fan was aware of the joke.

The skit involving our mascot and other members of our performance team was scripted and intended to celebrate the day. All participants were in on the joke, but we missed the mark.
