ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes that the Spurs superstar also has a considerable argument for the Most Improved Player honors.
Victor Wembanyama is completely taking it over for the NBA. As the 2025-26 season is now in its final stretch, the San Antonio Spurs superstar has emerged as a sudden key frontrunner for the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Apparently, beyond these two major individual awards, another trophy stands as a likely possibility for Wembanyama to capture. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst claimed on Thursday’s edition of NBA Today that the French sensation actually has a considerable argument for the Most Improved Player nod.
“I’m not saying anything negative about any of the other candidates. I’m just saying you can make a case that Victor [Wembanyama] should win Defensive Player of the Year, MVP, and Most Improved,” the NBA analyst said.
Wembanyama is averaging 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a league-leading 3.1 blocks this season for the Spurs.
Interestingly, his current numbers mirror what he had from the past 2024-25 campaign, until a blood clot diagnosis prematurely ended his season which limited him to just 46 games.
Regardless, his impact to the Spurs’ success this year is off the charts. He carried San Antonio to the No. 2 seed of the Western Conference standings with a 58-18 record.
No player yet in the history of the NBA has won the three of MVP, DPOY and MIP in a single season, yet Windhorst is convinced that Wembanyama has a strongly decent case to be that one.
“If you look at what he has done year over year, I remember when I was a kid watching Shaquille O’Neal play. I would watch NBA on NBC on Sunday afternoons, and I would not take my eyes off Shaq. I didn’t care where he went. I didn’t care what Penny was doing or what Dennis Scott was doing. I was just watching Shaq go up and down the court,” Windhorst said.
“This is what I do with him. I’m just watching No. 1 go up and down the court. There’s other good stuff happening, and you’re going to tell us about it, coach, but I can’t take my eyes off him. I watch basketball all day long, and I can’t take my eyes off him.”
