NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets rookie forward Danny Wolf had his fair share of positives and negatives over the course of his rookie season in the NBA before a left ankle sprain ended his season. Brooklyn was hoping that Wolf would be able to translate his unique game to the next level after what he did in college and he is hoping to show more of that next season.

“Whenever you get injured, it’s always a pity feeling and it’s inevitable as a sport of basketball and it comes with it and you just have to get over it,” Wolf prior to Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Wizards when asked for how he’s feeling following the injury. Wolf suffered his ankle sprain in a 126-122 loss at the Sacramento Kings on Mar. 22 and while he won’t be seeing the floor again, he’s still determined to be the best version of himself.

“I think kind of two parts. I think defensively, I think there were definitely a lot of people questioning who I’d be able to guard in this league, and I think that I took that as kind of a chip on my shoulder to more than prove, but be a good defender,” Wolf said when asked if he felt that he improved on his defensive ability enough to prove himself before addressing his offensive game.

“And then the shooting and the offense, I think that it was nowhere near what I know that I’m capable of doing and that upsets me. And again, I think that I was able to shoot the ball well at times and there’d be times where I felt I couldn’t make a shot. And that’s kind of a rookie season and there’s going to be ups and downs in knowing your spots.”

Wolf, 21, finishes his rookie season with averages of 8.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 40.5% from the field and 32.2% from behind the three-point line. Wolf is now one of four players that Brooklyn has ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season, but he sounds determined to do what he can this summer to prepare for a better sophomore season.
