Appearing on the YES Network, NBA insider Michael Scotto revealed that the veteran might get moved after this season due to the Nuggets’ strong desire to retain upcoming restricted free agent Peyton Watson.
“Peyton Watson is gonna be one of the top restricted free agents, a young guy who’s burst onto the scene having a career year. I’ve had conversations with Denver throughout the season—they wanna keep this guy, but he’s got a lot of trade interest. Now, with that said, how does that affect Cam Johnson, our old friend in Brooklyn? He’s a really good stretch four, but for Denver, they’re gonna have to look at these extensions,” Scotto said.
“You got Jokic, you got Murray, you got Aaron Gordon—you gotta fit these guys under the aprons. They’re gonna be close to the second apron. The way they can stay below that and ensure more flexibility is by looking at the market and seeing if there’s a fit with a Cam Johnson trade. That’s something to keep an eye on for Denver.”
