The Toronto Raptors announced the signing of former Tennessee guard Tyreke Key on Monday afternoon. Key spent the last two seasons with Toronto’s G-League squad, Raptors 905, but will now be moving up for the tail end of the NBA season.
In 47 games with Raptors 905 this season, Key averaged 14.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. The former Vol had 16 total starts and averaged 24.5 minutes on the court per game. Key shot 51.4% from the floor, hitting 241-of-469 total attempts. He also knocked 40% of his of his three-point attempts, going 74-of-185 during the season.
Key played his first four collegiate seasons at Indiana State before eventually transferring to Tennessee for one season. He played for the Vols during the 2022-2023 campaign on Tennessee’s Sweet 16 team. Key played a career-high 33 games with the Volunteers and started in 15 contests. He averaged 8.2 points, 1.3 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Key helped Tennessee defeat both Louisiana and Duke during the 2023 NCAA Tournament before the Vols fell to Florida Atlantic in the Sweet 16. He tallied a season-high 23 points in the Vols’ buzzer-beater loss to Missouri at home in February 2023.
Tyreke Key becomes the 47th player coached by Rick Barnes, during his head coaching tenure, to reach the NBA. That list includes 13 @Vol_Hoops players. https://t.co/Nk9yWfZAbL

After going undrafted following his time at Tennessee, Key signed to play with the Leuven Bears of Belgium. He then signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Toronto Raptors last September.
With just four games left in the regular season, the Raptors own a 43-35 overall record, which is good for third in the Atlantic Standings. Toronto is tied with Philadelphia with identical records. The Raptors will close out the season with back-to-back home games against Miami on Apr. 7 and 9, a road game at New York on Apr. 10, and a home game against Brooklyn on Apr. 12. The Raptors’ road game against the Knicks will be played in Madison Square Garden, which is the same arena that Key’s last collegiate game was played in.
