University of Louisville freshman Mikel Brown Jr. has announced that he is declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft. Brown, 20, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram Tuesday morning, where he reflected on both the challenges and lessons he learned throughout his last year as a Cardinal point guard.”Ever since I can remember, basketball has been at the center of my life. It’s a game I love, a game I respect and a game that’s taught me so much,” Brown said.He went on to describe this past season as one of the most difficult in his career.Brown played in 21 games for the Cards but was was sidelined and unable to contribute on the court in the way he had hoped for the rest of the season.Despite that, he said the experience helped to shape him in ways beyond basketball.”It taught me how to be a better leader, how to conquer adversity and how to represent something bigger than myself,” said Brown.He also expressed his gratitude for his Louisville teams and coaches, along with the fans.”We showed up for each other through it all, and that means everything to me,” said Brown.Brown added that declaring for the draft helps him fulfill his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA.”No matter where the game takes me, Louisville will always be a part of who I am,” he said.
