Malick Kordel is the second Michigan player to enter the transfer portal since the window officially opened this week. Small forward Winters Grady also hit the open market after his lone season with the Wolverines.

Grady played in nine games as a freshman at Michigan. During that time, he averaged 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds across 6.0 minutes per game.

The Wolverines also got a huge boost to the frontcourt on Thursday. They landed a commitment from former Tennessee forward JP Estrella, On3’s Joe Tipton reported.

Estrella averaged 10.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in his third season at Tennessee. Michigan is also familiar with him from the Elite Eight matchup against the Vols. In that matchup, Estrella scored seven points on 3-of-9 shooting and also grabbing seven rebounds. The Wolverines defeated the Volunteers 95-62 at the United Center in Chicago.

Michigan put together a dominant 2025-26 season, its second under Dusty May, to bring home its first national title since 1989. The Wolverines went 37-3 overall, including 19-1 in Big Ten play to win the conference regular-season title, and won their first five games in the NCAA Tournament by double digits.

UConn put up a fight in the national championship, but Michigan stayed the course and got a huge three from freshman Trey McKenney in the final minute to help seal the win. The Wolverines came away with their second championship in program history. But once the game ended, the transfer portal window officially opened, and the staff then had to get to work.
