Georgia basketball freshman forward Kareem Stagg was arrested Wednesday in Oconee County and faces a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license, as well as a speeding violation, according to Oconee County Jail online records.
Stagg was booked into the Oconee County Jail at 2:58 p.m. and released on bond 50 minutes later. His bond was set at $1,245. Further details about the incident were not immediately available.
Stagg signed to return to Georgia on April 2, becoming one of three starters set to come back following the Bulldogs’ 102-77 loss to No. 9 seed Saint Louis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 19.
Stagg appeared in all 33 games this season, making nine starts while averaging 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds. He earned the starting nod in Georgia’s NCAA Tournament loss, becoming just the second freshman this decade to start a March Madness game for the Bulldogs.
His arrest adds another hurdle to Georgia’s offseason, as the Bulldogs have already lost seven players to the transfer portal.
