VCU transfer guard Terrence Hill Jr. will visit Tennessee basketball next week, a source with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to GoVols247.
Hill is coming off a breakout sophomore season in which he led VCU in points per game (15.0) and made three-pointers (81). He only made two starts, but played in all 36 games to win A-10 Sixth Man of the Year. He also received A-10 First Team honors.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard shot 46.6% overall, 37% from three and 84.4% at the free-throw line. Hill added 2.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.6 steals in 25.0 minutes per game.
Hill’s breakout season came after he averaged just 3.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and o.3 assists in 23 games as a freshman. He shot 44.6% from the floor, 34.4% from three and was a perfect 17-for-17 at the free-throw line – the most makes without a miss in VCU single-season history — during the 202425 season.
The Portland, Ore. native signed with VCU out of Roosevelt High School as an unranked prospect in the Class of 2024. Hill helped lead Roosevelt to a 26-3 record, a district title, and an appearance in the 6A state championship game in 2023-24 when he averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists as a senior.
247Sports ranks Hill as the No. 17 overall prospect in the transfer portal and the No. 6 point guard.
ROSTER OUTLOOK
Tennessee has already received two commitments from guards out of the transfer portal this offseason. Belmont transfer guard Tyler Lundblade was the first to commit to the Vols when he announced his decision April 1. Cal transfer guard Dai Dai Ames was the second to do so when he announced his commitment April 11.
The Vols still need guards after All-SEC point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and reserve guard Amaree Abram graduated, and Bishop Boswell, Amari Evans and Clarence Massamba elected to enter the transfer portal. Freshman point guard Troy Henderson announced April 8 he is returning for a second season with the Vols just over 24 hours after he initially indicated he was going to transfer. Sophomore guard Ethan Burg has not announced whether he will return.
Rick Barnes is looking to improve the team’s shooting in particular this offseason.Â
“We’re going to have to shoot the ball better,” Barnes said after Tennessee lost in the Elite Eight for the third straight year. “There’s no doubt. We’ve got to shoot the ball better. We’re so inconsistent doing that.
“We certainly know what it takes to get here. Now we’ve got to figure out getting through to the next level, and it’s on this day, you’ve got to really be at your best.”
