The Toronto Raptors have plenty to play for on Sunday on the final day of the NBA regular season.

They’re taking on the Brooklyn Nets, and they can still finish anywhere from 5-8 in the Eastern Conference standings.

A top-six seed is crucial, because that avoids the play-in tournament.

Given that the Nets are in full-on tank mode, the Raptors don’t have much excuse for losing on Sunday.

Raptors seeding scenarios for playoffs, play-in

The Raptors have one easy fact here: If they win, they’re a top-six seed.

A win over Brooklyn gives them nothing worse than the 6-seed.

They can only move up to the 5-seed if they win and both Atlanta and Orlando lose.

The fifth seed would mean a first-round matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The sixth seed would mean the New York Knicks in the first round.

A loss, and wins by either the Magic or the 76ers, can bump the Raptors down to the 7-seed (or the 8-seed if both those teams win).

The 7-8 play-in game participants get two single-game chances to win and advance to the regular bracket. But of course, the play-in participants also have to match up with the 1-seed Pistons or 2-seed Celtics in the first round.

The Raptors drew a fortunate opponent matchup to make this work out for them, and now they’ve just got to take care of business on Sunday.
