The Oklahoma City Thunder gained a valuable unprotected lottery pick from the Los Angeles Clippers after their playoff elimination, giving OKC a chance to land a top prospect in the 2026 NBA Draft.

The defending NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, are set to receive a lottery pick after the Los Angeles Clippers were eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday night.

The LA Clippers fell 126-121 to the Golden State Warriors in Play-In, officially ending their season – and in the process, handing Oklahoma City a valuable unprotected draft pick.

That detail is especially significant in what’s shaping up to be a loaded 2026 NBA Draft. Because the pick is unprotected, the Thunder now have a small but very real chance of jumping into the top four during the lottery.

If that happens, Oklahoma City could find itself in a position to draft one of the class’s elite prospects, including Cameron Boozer, Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, or Caleb Wilson.

This Clippers pick stands out as the most valuable asset among OKC’s draft capital. The Thunder have already shown how impactful these extra selections can be – just last year, they used a pick acquired from the Miami Heat to select Thomas Sorber at No. 15.

Oklahoma City isn’t done there. The team also owns the Philadelphia 76ers’ pick in this year’s draft. That selection was top-five protected, but with Philadelphia now in the playoffs following a win over the Orlando Magic, it will officially convey to the Thunder.

All eyes now turn to May 10, when the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery will determine just how high Oklahoma City’s newest asset could rise.
