The Wisconsin basketball team is moving on after losing star guard John Blackwell to the transfer portal. Wisconsin is adding 6-foot-10 big man Victory Onuetu, per CBS Sports, from the portal. The forward previously played for Hofstra.

Onuetu got on everyone’s radar after he put together an impressive performance for Hofstra against Alabama, in the NCAA tournament.

“Had nine rebounds, four points, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 18 minutes vs. Alabama,” CBS reporter Matt Zenitz posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Hofstra made the NCAA tournament with Onuetu and others during the 2025-26 season. The big man averaged 4.7 points and 6.9 rebounds during the season. He also averaged close to 18 minutes per game for Hofstra, while starting 17 games.

Wisconsin meanwhile finished the 2025-26 season with 24 victories.

Wisconsin basketball hopes to reach the top of the Big Ten

The Badgers made the NCAA tournament in 2026, but the season ended in disappointment. Wisconsin was upset by High Point in the Round of 64.

Wisconsin is led by head coach Greg Gard. Gard is speaking out about his team’s needs heading into the next season. The coach was frustrated after his team’s close loss to High Point in March Madness.

“You get sent home when you don’t take care of the things you need to take care of,” Gard said after that game, per the Associated Press.

This offseason, the Badgers have also picked up transfer Trey Autry. Autry is a shooting guard who played previously for George Washington. He averaged 11 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 2025-26.

“We are very excited to have Trey coming to Wisconsin,” Gard said in a release from the school. “He brings some size, physicality, and experience to our backcourt.”

Wisconsin basketball fans hope that Onuetu has a breakout season in 2026-27. The Badgers also have a signed letter of intent from forward LaTrevion Fenderson.
