BOSTON — The Boston Celtics’ quest for Banner 19 begins Sunday at TD Garden with Game 1 of their first-round series vs. the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 56-26 record, while the Philadelphia 76ers clinched the No. 7 seed at 45-37. Philly won its play-in matchup against the Orlando Magic.
The C’s have won each of their last six playoff meetings with the 76ers. The last time the storied rivals met in the postseason was in the 2023 Eastern Conference semifinals, when Boston triumphed in a thrilling seven-game series.
The Sixers will be without star big man Joel Embiid (post-appendectomy surgery recovery) for Game 1. Otherwise, it’s a clean injury report for both sides. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will lead the way for a C’s team that has been dominant (13-3) since Tatum’s return from his Achilles injury.
