The Golden State Warriors are awaiting Steve Kerr’s decision on his future, with his return potentially bringing strategic changes and his departure possibly triggering a broader organizational reset.
The Golden State Warriors have now missed the playoffs for the second time in three years, putting renewed focus on head coach Steve Kerr and his future with the franchise he helped turn into a dynasty.

Kerr, 60, is expected to make a decision within one to two weeks, a timeline that aligns with the organization’s desire to resolve the situation quickly.
According to Ramona Shelburne and Anthony Slater of ESPN, the Warriors want to give Kerr space to decide, but also need clarity soon in order to address roster construction and broader strategic plans.
If Kerr stays, discussions are expected to center on changes to the coaching staff and adjustments in playing style.
If Kerr chooses to step away, the Warriors are likely to conduct a wide-ranging search that could include external candidates and even coaches from the college ranks.
However, there are concerns about pairing an inexperienced head coach with veteran stars like Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler at this stage of their careers.

A potential departure from Kerr could also signal a larger organizational shift. Some within the team have described that scenario to ESPN as an “organizational reset,” which might involve significant changes to both the roster and coaching structure.
Ultimately, Warriors owner Joe Lacob is expected to prioritize Kerr’s level of commitment, per the same report.
The organization reportedly wants assurance that he remains fully invested in the day-to-day demands of coaching, rather than continuing out of loyalty to the core group or sentimentality.
For that reason, if Kerr does return, the team would prefer a multi-year extension instead of a short-term deal that might frame the season as a farewell tour, according to ESPN.
Since taking over in 2014, Kerr has led Golden State to four championships, a record-setting 73-win season, and six NBA Finals appearances.
