Game 2 on Monday saw the Timberwolves climb back from a 19-point second-quarter deficit on the road to even the series. With two minutes to go in that same quarter, Minnesota also came to its largest lead of the game at eight points. Chris Finch’s crew shot the ball very well in Denver, finishing at 41.2% from beyond the arc (14/34).
Denver was able to carry a five-point lead with 6:40 to go in the fourth quarter, but Nikola Jokic‘s two points in the fourth quarter were not enough to get the job done in crunch time. The Serbian star shot 8-for-20 from the field in Game 2, including a lackluster 1 of 7 from 3-point range. Jamal Murray tied with Anthony Edwards to lead all scorers with 30 points on 11 of 25 from the field. After scoring 17 points in Game 1, Aaron Gordon was held to just eight points in the second game (3 of 9 FG). Christian Braun and Tim Hardaway Jr. both pitched in 16 points, but it still wasn’t enough to overcome Minnesota.
Edwards led the Timberwolves with a 30-point, 10-rebound double-double and was huge down the stretch. His fourth quarter was quiet, but that saw the team’s role players pick up the slack. Jaden McDaniels finished with 14 points, including the lead-taking fastbreak dunk with 4:34 to go. Just over 30 seconds later, Donte DiVincenzo scored a layup to bring the lead to three. With a minute to go, the former Villanova Wildcat hit a 3-pointer on the wing to stretch the lead to four.
Through six meetings this season, the Nuggets hold the advantage 4-2. Their first-round playoff series is now knotted at one game apiece heading into Minneapolis.
