Without top scorers Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, the Lakers rallied as home underdogs in both Games 1 and 2 to take 107-98 and 101-94 victories in LA. Luke Kennard dropped 27 stunning points in sparking that Game 1 win, while James put up 28-8-7 as part of another outstanding group effort in Game 2. Kennard scored 23 in that win, as well, and Marcus Smart added 25 for a backcourt that helped drive a key victory. The Rockets are in a similar position as sizable favorites (-8.5 points) in Game 3 for a contest that borders on must-win or else run into a 3-0 series deficit.
