Dusty May was open to a big-time nonconference opponent on the schedule for next season.
Duke checks that box.
The Michigan men’s basketball team will face Duke in New York’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 21 in a rematch from last season.

Duke announced the game Thursday along with two other high-profile neutral sites games. The Blue Devils will also face UConn in Las Vegas on Nov. 25 and Gonzaga in Detroit on Feb. 20. All games will stream on Amazon and are intended to produce NIL opportunities for the players.
Michigan lost this past season’s matchup with Duke 68-63 on Feb. 21 in Washington, D.C. Michigan was ranked No. 1 in the AP poll at the time and Duke was third. It was the Wolverines’ second loss of the season. They went on to win the national championship and finished 37-3. Duke finished 35-3 after losing on a last-second 3 to UConn in the Elite Eight. Michigan beat UConn in the title game.
The Wolverines played an exhibition game at Madison Square Garden last season, beating St. John’s, and lost there against Arkansas the season before. The Duke game will be May’s third at the Garden in as many seasons as Michigan’s coach.
In addition to the Wolverines’ 20 Big Ten games next season, they’ll host Marquette and visit Villanova. Other matchups for the 2026-27 season will be announced at a later date.
