Texas A&M basketball’s final roster under former head coach Buzz Williams included the program’s all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV, but it would be unfair not to include the key role players that helped lead the Aggies to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, as forwards Henry Coleman III and Andersson Garcia set multiple program records, while former five-star guard Manny Obaseki’s sporadic career ended on a positive note.
Obaseki’s career with the Aggies was rocky to start, as the highest-rated prospect under Williams during his A&M tenure was never considered a reliable starter, but continued to grow and become a dependable bench player, with his highest scoring average reaching 7.0 points per game during the 2023 season, also shooting a career-high 42% from the field and 40% from 3-point range.
During his final season in College Station, Obaseki finished with 6.5 points per game, while his shooting percentage dropped to 36.8% from the field and 34.9% from deep. Still, he recorded eleven double-digit scoring efforts and may have been one of the reasons Texas A&M lost to Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after Williams pulled him out of the game late, taking away his strength in the paint.
Manny Obaseki isn’t considered a blue-chip NBA prospect but still possesses the skillset to make it to the next level, as he announced on Friday that he will declare for the 2025 NBA draft, the first Texas A&M player to do so. Here is his official send-off on social media.
