The Chicago Bulls are going into a new era in their organization, and they recently hired Atlanta Hawks senior vice president Bryson Graham as their new executive vice president of basketball operations. The next step for the Bulls is to find a new head coach, and there’s one name that keeps being brought up in circles.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints mentioned San Antonio Spurs associate head coach Sean Sweeney as an option for the Bulls. Chicago is looking for a young coach who can help lead the team for the present and future, and Sweeney could be the perfect candidate for what they desire.
“That’s why I’m looking at Sean Sweene from the San Antonio Spurs. I think that would be an excellent fit for this organization,” Siegel said.
Jake Fischer also noted that Sweeney could have some interest around the league and mentioned the Bulls as one of his options.
“There is a growing sense, meanwhile, that New Orleans is unlikely to have a shot at San Antonio’s in-demand assistant coach Sean Sweeney, who is expected to be part of Chicago’s search and possibly Orlando’s,” Fischer wrote.
Sweeney was the video coordinator for the then-New Jersey Nets in 2011 and did that until 2013. Sweeney was then promoted to assistant coach when the Nets moved to Brooklyn and was there until 2014.
Sweeney became an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014 to 2018, and then went to the Detroit Pistons from 2018 through 2021.
With the success that the Spurs have had this season, it’s no surprise that teams would try to poach their assistants from them. It seems like people have had good things to say about Sweeney as well, which makes him a well-respected assistant.
The Bulls have the building blocks for a bright future, and adding someone like Sweeney could be the cherry on top for the front office.
