Young talents are sprouting on the Detroit Pistons against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Daniss Jenkins rose as one, dropping 14 points in 26 minutes. Yet Jenkins believes the Orlando Magic helped harden him and his team during the NBA Playoffs.

Why did Jenkins praise the No. 8 seed Detroit eliminated in round one? He outlined the reasons with reporters postgame.

“I think Orlando did a really good job of preparing us for this moment,” Jenkins began. “They came out and they hit us in the mouth first and they showed us what the playoffs is about.”

Turns out that 3-1 deficit became the best thing to happen to Detroit thus far, per Jenkins’ words.

“So once we got that up under our belt we just rolling from there,” Jenkins said. “We back to playing Pistons basketball for 48 minutes like we supposed to.”

Jenkins proved to be a force without scoring, positioning himself for this dish to Jalen Duren even with two defenders on him.

But he beat the third quarter buzzer on this long range attempt from behind the arc.

Detroit jumps to a 2-0 lead as the series moves to Cleveland. Except Jenkins doesn’t see relief from his team after the exhausting series against Orlando. He dropped a Kobe Bryant-themed message in his postgame presser.

“We’re gonna keep swinging. Our backs are still against the wall, the world still don’t believe. We’re still trying to prove something to ourselves. The job’s not finished,” Jenkins said.

The 24-year-old is averaging 13 points per game this series while collecting a combined 13 rebounds. He’s snatched four steals too on the defensive side while dishing a combined seven assists.
