A video that shows San Antonio police get physical with Spurs fans who were celebrating the team’s blowout of the Minnesota Timberwolves has gone viral on social media.
The video, posted by a Facebook user tagged as John Doee, depicts at least half a dozen SAPD officers as they attempt to keep crowds off the roadways Wednesday night on Southwest Military Drive.

As the video begins, officers arrest a man in a black shirt after pulling him from a red vehicle. Police then push crowds of fans off the street, and then arrest a man in a red hoodie. Meanwhile, surrounding bystanders shout “boo” and “you can’t do that.”
One officer grabs a man on the ground and moves him onto the sidewalk. Another man in a white shirt seems to try to help the man on the ground up. Another nearby officer then pushes the man in the white shirt off the sidewalk. A second officer does the same, knocking the man in the white shirt out of the camera frame.

The crowd continues to jeer while car horns blare in the background. “Y’all can’t do that,” the man filming the video said. “Hey, just beating up people? … Ah man, they can’t do that.”

According to representatives from the department, Wednesday night’s celebrations led to two arrests for “burning out” – or moving the vehicle very slowly while spinning the rear tires – “with disregard for the people in the immediate area.”
In a statement to the Express-News, department officials said that although they support “lawful celebratory activity” after Spurs playoff wins, they “must also reduce any public safety risks, especially when vehicles and pedestrians are occupying the same space.”
“After the Spurs victory, several individuals engaged in unsafe and illegal activity which resulted in SAPD officers having to take enforcement action to maintain public safety,” the statement read.
