LIVE UPDATES: Thunder take big lead into fourth after out pacing Lakers by 13

Below is a live blog with updates throughout Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Thunder and Lakers

Uncontested SG. Hollywood is the new stage, but right now the Oklahoma City Thunder are stealing the show. Oklahoma City now up 2-0 in this best of seven series. Now Game 3 is in front of *** sea of yellow. This time of year is the purest form of the sport. Can OKC silence Los Angeles on their home court and move one step closer to the next round? Your KOCO countdown to Game 3 starts right now. We are live in Los Angeles, *** live look at Crypto.com Arena before game 3 tonight as the series moves to the state of California. Can the Thunder do it again, take *** 3-0 series lead and get one step closer to get back to the Western Conference Finals. Hey everybody, welcome to the pregame show. I’m Brian Keating alongside Tessa Durrell. You see live there Chet Holmgren there. We got *** big show for you. Tessa, are you ready for game 3 tonight? Oh, it’s going to be *** good one. There’s some heated debate after that last game, so there’s *** little bit more emotion going on. Into it, it’s gonna be *** good night. Are you saying there’s some back and forth about the officiating? Maybe something going on, something like that, just *** little bit. That is one of the storylines. Look, we got *** lot of things to talk about. Certainly the officiating and the Lakers getting after the officials during the game, after the game. I think, can Oklahoma City get this thing going with Shay Gildris Alexander? The Thunder bench was outstanding. And the Thunder lead this series 2 games to none. Let’s get into the storylines. Tessa, I want to start with SGA, who I don’t want to use the word struggled with Shea, but the Lakers have done their best to try to get the ball out of his hands. He’s found his spots. What do you expect from Shea tonight? You know, the first game, it was turnovers. That was an issue for him and his personal game. And then the second game, it was not getting fouls called against him and then losing him to. Foul trouble there in that 3rd quarter. So I think tonight it’s just, you know, can he play *** consistent game and that means staying in it for minutes in that 3rd quarter, not finding foul trouble, but then also, you know, keeping *** clean game as far as staying away from the turnovers. Yeah, he’s tough to guard, um, and the Lakers have just made *** decision that they’re going to try to get the ball out of his hands, make everybody else around Oklahoma City want *** ball handler. And play creator hasn’t been exactly Shea’s series thus far, but it’s going to be hard to keep him down. Just the 18 points in game one, got over the 20 in game two. The good news for Oklahoma City is that he’s had *** lot of help. Certainly, AJ Mitchell’s been incredible and Jared McCain. Boy, Jared, McCain was just terrific in game two. Yes, and it was interesting to see how, you know, the rest of the team is talking about Jared McCain. They said he’s going to pull it whenever, but we have *** good, there’s *** good chance it’s going in, and that’s *** good place to be whenever you can trust people up and down the roster. No doubt about it. It’s one of the reasons they’re so good. They’re so deep. They have so many ways they can go. All right, the next storyline certainly is the Lakers and the officials and And there’s *** lot of video of the Lakers yelling at the officials, including after the game, which I thought was very strange. Yes, it’s *** big thing on social media right now. Quite *** few memes being made of it, all the fun things, you know, LeBron’s always the headline, but especially here after the game, um, you know, going into tonight, it’s really about how the Thunder is going to react to that. Stay controlled, play your own game. Don’t let that noise affect you going into tonight. It was strange, and we sat there in the arena on Thursday night when the Lakers all got around the officials. And it was *** big hubbub and all of that. I’ve never quite seen that. So what will happen tonight? Will it be officiated different? I, I hate talking about the officials, but it’s part of the series. It’s just the way it is. Um, game one, the fouls called. I mean, when you look at the numbers, Tessa, there’s just not *** lot of difference. Yes, it’s not very different, and I think the biggest thing was the flagrant fouls. That was the biggest question. And then, of course, when you have them called on players like SG. or questionable calls against LeBron, that’s just gonna be *** huge part of the game and *** huge part of the narrative, um, but you know, it’s, it’s pretty even across the board, so we’ll see what happens tonight. Game 2 was *** little bit more tilted, I think, towards Oklahoma City, but I mean, here we’re, we’re, we’re splitting hairs. You’re talking about nearly the same amount of fouls called in 2 games, nearly the same amount of free throws attempted in 2 games. I think the Lakers’ frustration is because Oklahoma City is. So good defensively. They are *** pack of wild hyenas, man. They just get after you and move and, and bite and nip at you, and after 48 minutes, you’re tired of it. And I think that’s what we’ve seen from Oklahoma City and one of the reasons you’ve seen the Lakers get the way. But, but again, we’ll see what happens tonight, if it’s any different as Oklahoma City goes to Los Angeles. Game 3s, game 3s haven’t exactly been Oklahoma City’s forte, going back into the playoffs last season, even. They were much better against the Phoenix Suns, Game 3 on the road. And obviously, when you’re on the road, As good as that arena is in downtown Oklahoma, it’s just gonna be different in game 3 tonight. Yes, it’s gonna be different, you know, and we’re talking about how quick the turnaround is for Oklahoma City with travel and in between games. It’s gonna be *** different feeling. You don’t have that, um, electric energy behind you the way you did in Oklahoma City, so we’ll see how the Thunder adjusts, but also, you know, as we’ve talked about, they’re not playing their best basketball in game one and game two, so maybe this is the chance to make game 3 yours. optimistic here. I like where you’re going with that. The video is obviously from the NBA Finals last season. This is the run to the NBA championship in game 3s alone. So game 3s alone, they only won 1 game 3 in all of the playoffs last season. It was round 1 against the Memphis Grizzlies, and that was *** game that they actually trailed by almost 30 points, had to come back and win. And then you look at the rest of it. They lost game 3 to the Nuggets, lost game 3 in blowout fashion. The Timberwolves and lost game 3 of the NBA Finals. That’s something to watch. They said, they said after game 3 against Phoenix, they had that circle. They wanted to play much better and did and won. And so we’ll see if they, they can do that again tonight in Los Angeles. As far as SGA goes, the physicality in this series, and we talked about the officiating, but they’ve allowed the Lakers to play physical against him. They’ve allowed the Thunder to play physical elsewhere. That guy right there can be very good. And so, look, the physicality in this series is something to watch. Definitely, but You have *** lot of hope if you’re *** Thunder fan hearing the way SGA is responding. He said his favorite form of basketball is playoff basketball because of the physicality. So if you find guys that want to lean into that and use that to their advantage, um, they’re OK playing with that physicality. I think that means you’re not afraid going into this game 3 if you’re the Oklahoma City Thunder. So that’s *** live look inside crypto there as the Thunder get ready for Game 3 tonight. Shay Gildes Alexander talking about the physicality and what he expects tonight. The way basketball works, usually the more physical team and the more the team that imposes their will more just wins, um, and that’s probably why we won tonight, probably why we won last game. We did *** good job, especially in the second half of really playing our style of basketball, being physical, pressuring them, um, making things uncomfortable. I think the way the Thunder approach the physicality and the officiating, I think it’s right on the money. They just, they don’t, they don’t let that bother them whatsoever. It’s not part of anything that they say ever. And that’s the way to be just because you never know how *** certain game is gonna be called, which way it’s gonna go. So I think to just go into it almost ignoring it, that’s the way to be because you want to rely on what you can do, um, basketball-wise for your own team. Yeah, they play, they play through it, uh, about as well as anybody else. Um, I want to get into our player to watch tonight, and I think our player to watch, and we could have picked *** lot of guys who’ve been really good in games one and game two. SGA is still trying to find his footing, but Chet Holmgren’s been awesome in this series. I think AJ. Mitchell’s been awesome in this series, but the guy off the bench who really was *** spark in game two and, and really in game one as well, um, that’s Jerryd McCain. He was just fantastic. You know, it’s great to hear the rest of his teammates talk about him. Um, I said that earlier, you know, they trust that when he shoots, he’s gonna make it. But with someone like Jerry McCain as *** threat they’re at the 3, it allows *** lot of opportunities underneath for Chet to go in and score, for AJ Mitchell to go in and make drives. So not only is he making buckets, but he’s really spreading the versatility for the Thunder. Offense. And he’s *** spark plug for this team in *** way that I think nobody else really is. I mean, he is an instant offense, instant offense, microwave kind of guy. Come in, get shots at the rim. He had, um, 18 points in game two. He made 4 of 5 threes in games one and two. Tessa, he’s 8 of 10 shooting 3s in this series. That’ll do for *** guy off the bench or anybody else. Yes. And of course, it’s awesome to see how he changes the momentum. That was the biggest. Biggest thing we’re up doing *** live hit at 10:00 p.m. and the stadium’s going crazy for that guy. It just changes everything. So he’s definitely *** tone setter as far as someone coming off the bench for the Thunder. Yeah, he can really inflict his will with his pace and speed and all the things he can do. I’m curious to see, does his game travel in the postseason? We’ll see tonight, but Jared McCain was fantastic in games one and game two. so we’re here in the studio in Oklahoma City. Games in Los Angeles. Angeles, but Thunder fans are everywhere in Oklahoma City and around the state of Oklahoma, including at Fassler Hall. And so, I know Thunder fans and Thunder watch parties are gonna be anywhere and everywhere around the state. That is *** live look at Fassler Hall. Loud City moves to OKC in and around OKC. Um, I would expect, look, I, I don’t know that we’ll quite have the deep and, you know, the, the things that like the paint come, but. This is, if you’re not at *** game, this is pretty good too, yeah, we’ve, I’ve never had the chance to go out to one, but man, that looks like some fun. I don’t know if they’re playing titanium there. No, see, that’s it. OK, that’s your suggestion. Titanium now moves to Fassler Hall. I think that changes everything, you know, that you need that there. You need, you need the live field, and it starts with titanium. You make the call, get it done, set it up. I love where you’re going with that. We’ll shoot it. We’ll have it on tonight at 10. Uh, more to come before game 3 tonight. I feel like we’re close, like genuinely, like genuinely, genuinely close, like good people, yeah, yeah, truly like, well, these girls will be my friends for the rest of my life. I, I cannot wait for this story tonight. Courtney Hartenstein and Ilana Harris. Show what it’s like to be *** wife, girlfriend, family member of one of the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder players before game 3 tonight live in LA. Live look in Los Angeles, crypto.com. Lakers hosting the Thunder tonight. OKLC leads the series 2 games to none. Tipoff at 7:30 right here on Channel 5. Cannot wait. Game 3 tonight as we welcome you back into Oklahoma City. Brian Keating alongside Tessa Darrell. Tessa, Have you ever thought about what it might be like to be married to girlfriend, family member, dad, mom of one of the, the players for the Oklahoma City Thunder? You know, I’ve never thought about it, but I’m on the TikTok, you know, and I’ve seen it. I follow pretty closely to our Oklahoma City Thunder, uh, wags, that’s for sure. OK, wives and girlfriends is the wags, and we had the privilege to talk to Courtney Hartenstein. And Atlanta Harris, Courtney Hartenstein, obviously, Hartenstein. Atlanta Harris, the girlfriend of Jalen Williams. And, um, it’s gonna be *** fun story. I can’t wait to see it. Let’s talk about the game. The playoffs, they’re happening right now. Let’s get *** little behind the scenes look. What is playoff time? What does that look like for you guys at home? It’s intense. It’s *** lot of preparation. I feel like Isaiah is always doing some type of treatment to keep his body tip top shape, so it’s just. I feel like it’s *** lot of preparation and just like nerves for me, honestly, I’m nervous all the time. It’s exhausting. Like you ride *** high. Like I remember after the championship last year, I was like, I just want to sleep for like *** week because like playoffs is like so fun, but even something that’s like so fun is so mentally exhausting. So would you say it’s nothing like regular season? Nothing at all. It’s 10 times like *** piece. We see Oklahoma City, you know, all decked out. It has all of these, you know, Thunder gear. When you go on the street, you’re probably driving down, you see somebody in *** Thunder shirt. Can you feel the excitement though from the fans? You know, the city is really buzzing. Absolutely, um, Isaiah and I go to this park by our house and. It’s drawn *** crowd. People will wait with jerseys with balls and everything, and he’s such *** good sport. He will talk to everybody inside it, but it’s just so funny because that didn’t happen *** couple of weeks ago and now it’s just like it’s building up and you can feel the intensity. Our neighborhood is crazy. Like I will say like driving like every single like there’s houses being built and they have like big thunder flags hanging out like they’re like barely. Bill, it’s like still wood and there’s like thunder and like I drove the other day, there’s like *** giant skeleton with *** jersey on. So I’m like, I feel like as soon as the Thunder makes the playoffs, like every, like it’s blue everywhere, it’s *** logo everywhere. So it’s like, especially like our neighborhood, like driving through, I was going to the game. I was like, oh my gosh, like it feels like Christmas, but like Thunder. Yes, yes, people get serious. Let’s talk about you *** little bit and Jalen. We know that you’re *** grandma and is his biggest fan. This story also went viral. Talk about that relationship. It’s just, it’s so sweet. I love it. I love it. She loves him. She tells everybody like about him, honestly, so she, I mean, watches every single game. Like I don’t think she misses one and she like knows what’s going on as well. Like she’ll text. that was *** good charge. You’re like that guy’s trying to hurt him. I’m like, Grandma’s, nobody’s trying to hurt him. He’s OK. Like, you know what I mean? They can get *** little rough. His position gets *** little rough. Grandma is ready to jump on the board she is. I think she would. She’s going to fight the she’s had like 10 back, she would be out there. She would be out there. Well, Courtney, I want to come over to you to talk about because this is huge, the Hardenstein Foundation. You do so much with this foundation, you know, you do school visits, youth camps, even during the holidays, holiday shopping for families. And I have to ask you, when you see the, the faces of the kids, the families that you’re helping, I mean, when you go back and think about the beginnings of the foundation. Is that just everything to you? It’s the best. It’s why we do it for the kids, for the reactions for them. Isaiah always says, if I can just make one impact on *** child, that will mean the world to him, and it does. And my mother-in-law, I always have to give her credit because she does the behind the scenes work. She’s *** machine, and I mean it’s worth it. He keeps me busy. I swear that man has like *** day off *** month and he’s like, All right, we’re doing two events today. Get your shirt on. And so I’m like, all right, let’s go. They’re the two most kindhearted people I know. So like I’m gonna cry. OK. So I’m like that it is more than you even like she does so much. You guys are obviously very close. I mean, you were just telling us you have *** Wags basketball team and so that sounds like *** whole lot of fun. Talk about the bond that you guys have created and the friendships you’ve made. We have *** group chat. We talk every single day. Like I can’t remember the last day we weren’t talking about something, whether it’s sending each other *** funny TikTok. I feel like we’re close, like genuinely, like genuinely, genuinely close, like good people, yeah, yeah, truly like, well, these girls will be my friends for the rest of my life. It’s nice to just have they’re part of my village, so she’s an auntie um to Elijah and also Hayley Summers has *** baby that’s very, very close to Elijah’s age, so we’re going through these stages of motherhood together and it’s been kind of my lifeline sometimes like you said we’re always in the group chat and like Hailey and I will have play dates with boys and um I I’m not sure how I would make it without them with their lifeline. You know what, I may be just as interested in the Wags as I am the actual Thunder team as we go deeper into the playoffs. Thunder Christmas. That’s, it is, that is kind of what it’s like. Game 3 ahead. Stay with us. Game 3 tonight. Thunder Lakers series moves to Los Angeles. One of the things Oklahoma City Tea does so well, they guard you, they make it uncomfortable, and they turn you over. That’s obviously been *** big key in games 1 and game 2. That’s why they’re so productive on defense, you know, um, they, they go at it hard. They’re not afraid of physicality and contact, and of course that forces turnovers. They reach in, they bother you, they, they do everything to you, and, and it, it leads to easy baskets on the other end for Oklahoma City. Shay Gillis Alexander hadn’t had *** big series yet, but the Thunder’s ability to get out and run and create offense that way, I think the Lakers’ plan has been pretty good on Oklahoma City, but they’ve created easy baskets because Of their turnovers, and it’s allowed everybody else to get involved, not just Shay Gildes Alexander. And so, JJ Redick talked to the media about 30 minutes ago and he was asked, you know, what is it about his team and why some of the other guys for Oklahoma City have been able to get off and get hot. And, um, I thought his answer was very interesting. Roll it. Mitchell and McCain have hurt us, um, in those non-Sha minutes and then Chet’s hurt us the whole game. Um, You know, I think, um, You got to be willing to live with something. Um, Shea playing one on one thus far in the series, we haven’t been willing to live with. You know, that’s something we saw they’re watching it. Jared McCain and AJ Mitchell, uh, they’re the, the hot spot for the Thunder right now. Shea, they got *** deep team. It’s the reason they lead this series 2 games to none. Stay with us on the pregame show. Plenty more to come before game 3 tonight. Thunder 8-0 all-time in series when leading that series 2 games to none. Great stat for Thunder fans. Stay with us. So Jalen Williams isn’t gonna play tonight, 3rd straight game in this series that he’s out. We’re not exactly sure when he might be available. We know he will not be available tonight. So Tessa, I think one of the places Oklahoma City has done *** great job is. In Jalen Williams’ absence, I think AJ Mitchell’s handled *** lot of that ball handling. I thought he’s been great in games one and game two. Yeah, he’s definitely, uh, rises to the occasion in the game, and especially situationally, you know, his first game was great in this series. Game two, he had *** bit of *** different occasion to raise to, which was to fill the shoes of SGA, and he’s, he’s done that and more in my eyes. Here’s AJ Mitchell. You know, the mindset’s been the same, uh, since, since we started the playoffs. Uh, it’s just trying to go out there and make winning plays, uh, and if I have to be more aggressive, I gotta do that. But at the end of the day all that matters is just getting that win. 2-0 in this series. They’ve gotten 2 wins. All right, before we let you go, I thought we’d do something fun tonight, Tessa. Uh, LeBron James made his NBA debut in 2003. He is currently 41 years old. Look at LeBron. Oh, man. How many of the Thunder players do you think weren’t even alive when LeBron made his NBA debut? Debut. You know, if they’re my age, they aren’t so good *** handful of them, *** handful, 4. Nikola Topic, I think, not alive yet. AJ Mitchell, but just *** wee lad. There’s *** lot of these young guys. I mean, um, LeBron James 41, Lou Dort was, again, *** wee lad. I mean, it just won. It, it shows the greatness of LeBron. And it shows that the Thunder, you know, might have some young guys. Yeah, and even at my age, I, I said this, watching him walk into the arena, my stomach just dropped. He’s that iconic, even, you know, if you’ve watched his debut or if you’re me, and it was *** while, it was *** while after the fact that I was born. So he’s iconic. He is also down 2-0 in this series. Thunder Lakers tonight at 7:30 right here on Channel 5 for Tessa Darrell. I’m Brian Keating. Enjoy the game. See you.
