An abstract art collection compiled by married couple Elliot and Kimberly Perry is now on display at the Harvey B. Gantt Center’s latest exhibition.
“Beyond Boundaries: Black Abstraction in the Elliot and Kimberly Perry Art Collection” features works by Black artists spanning the early 1920s to the present, including recent college graduates.
“As we think about the mission of our collection, both short-term and long-term, it’s really to expose and highlight what artists of color are doing across the spectrum — particularly Black artists,” Elliot told QCity Metro.
The exhibition of 40 pieces will be on display in all three of the Gantt Center’s galleries now through August 30.

The Perrys currently live in Memphis, but Elliot has ties to Charlotte. He played for the Hornets during the 1991-92 season alongside Muggsy Bogues, Dell Curry and Larry Johnson.
Elliot’s mentor and former NBA player, Darrell Walker, introduced Perry to art in 1996.
