The Washington Wizards are already hard at work trying to decide who they will take at the top of the NBA Draft next month. It very well could be former BYU Cougar AJ Dybantsa who Washington picks.

General manager Will Dawkins is in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine, and he spoke to ESPN about what he likes in Dybantsa after the club had a chance to interview him in person. They liked what they heard.

“This guy has a charisma to him. He’s got a confidence to him,” Dawkins said about Dybantsa. “He’s been able to do it at every level that he’s stepped at, and increased his play. When you talk about basketball, he can score it, he can defend, he’s long, and he can make plays for others. He’s a high-level talent.”

This will not be the only time that the Wizards will take a look at the consensus All-American. The Wizards will bring him in for workouts in Washington D.C., to keep gathering more information if Dybantsa will be their next superstar for the next decade.

“So we have an opportunity to take a look at him and get to know him a little bit more,” Dawkinds added. “We got to interview him today, we’ll spend a little bit more time with him, hopefully in D.C. But again, true talent.”

The majority of the mock drafts have Dybantsa going number one overall. There is still so much time between now and the actual NBA Draft.

There are reports that the Wizards will listen to trade options for the number one pick. With the Utah Jazz picking second, there could be talks among those two about a potential trade to keep Dybantsa in the state he has lived for the past few years, playing high school and college basketball.
