By winning the NBA Draft Lottery for June’s highly anticipated NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards will have their choice of player to select from a number of very talented players. While AJ Dybantsa is expected to go No. 1 overall by most within league circles, others aren’t ruling out the possibility of Darry Peterson being worthy of joining the Wizards via the first overall selection.

Gilbert Arenas played 11 seasons in the NBA, eight of which game with the Washington Wizards franchise. From 2001 to 2011, Arenas played 357 games averaging 25 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per game whiles hooting 42.4 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three.
The Wizards made big splashes last season, trading for guard Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks in a deal involving CJ McCollum. Washington then went out and acquired Anthony Davis at the NBA’s trade deadline, putting together a team that, when healthy at the start of the 2026-27 regular season, could be ready to compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Now armed with the No. 1 overall pick, the Wizards have the opportunity to accelerate their timeline even further, adding an NBA-ready player from the jump, and entering those postseason conversations.
A forward out of Massachusetts, AJ Dybantsa averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the BYU Cougars while playing 34.8 minutes per game, shooting 51 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from three.
In 24 appearances for the Kansas Jayhawks, guard Darryn Peterson averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game whiles hooting 43.8 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three.
The NBA Draft will be a two-day event starting June 23rd at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York.
