The Indiana Pacers and their fans might still be processing the NBA Draft Lottery debacle, so a little distraction from basketball is likely appreciated. There were no playoff games on the schedule for Thursday night, which had Tyrese Haliburton feeling quite grateful. The superbly clutch point guard is already emotionally invested in something else, as anticipation builds within the music industry.
“No playoff games cuz ‘Iceman’ here, respect,” Haliburton joked on X. Legendary rapper Drake is set to release his first studio album in approximately two and a half years, leaving fans around the globe on the edge of their seat. The Pacers star is seemingly included in that group.
There are two postseason matchups that will be contested on Friday — the Detroit Pistons will try to extend their season when they collide with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, and the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves will square off in a Game 6 battle of their own — so perhaps it would have been better for everyone if “Iceman” actually dropped before midnight.
Now, Drake’s latest work may not receive all the attention it could. On the other hand, megastars have a way of seizing the spotlight regardless of what else is going on in the world. The five-time Grammy winner will be the man of the weekend following his grand unveiling. He is already making waves for a LeBron James-centered jab, which ostensibly revolves around the all-time great forward’s perceived allegiance to Drake nemesis Kendrick Lamar.
Tyrese Haliburton and countless others will have their headphones plugged in for a good chunk of Friday, but The Association hopes that the public will shift its focus to the Prime Video playoffs doubleheader. The Pistons and Cavs will start things off at approximately 7 p.m. ET.
