The Washington Wizards won the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Lottery on Sunday, a big win with the potential to secure a franchise player.
The Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies and Chicago Bulls will pick second through fourth.

The Los Angeles Clippers secured the No. 5 pick via a trade from the Indiana Pacers. The pick was top-4 protected for Indiana, but when they landed outside of those picks, the selection conveyed to the Clippers.
The Wizards were tied with the Pacers and Brooklyn Nets for the best odds to win the lottery. The Pacers won’t have a selection in the lottery or the first round after falling out of the top 4. The Nets will pick at No. 6.
The Bulls made the biggest jump to secure the No. 4 pick after entering the lottery with the ninth-best odds. They had a 5.71% chance of moving up to No. 4 and a 20.27% chance of moving anywhere inside the top 4.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Jazz popped up as the winner of the No. 3 pick, too, after they’d secured the No. 2. That result forced another draw for the No. 3 pick that the Grizzlies won.

Who will go No. 1?
The upcoming draft is one of the most anticipated in NBA history. There’s no clear-cut No. 1 like recent drafts that featured Cooper Flagg and Victor Wembanyama, each of whom arrived to the NBA as generational prospects.
This is a draft that’s deep and stacked at the top, featuring several prospects with the upside of anchoring a roster and making multiple All-Star games through the course of their careers.
Dynamic BYU forward AJ Dybantsa has hurdled Kansas guard Darryn Peterson to the top of many projected draft boards. But he’s not the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in a draft where Duke forward Cameron Boozer and North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson have also been floated as potential top picks.

Beyond those players, Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr., Houston guard Kingston Flemings, Illinois guard Keaton Wagler and Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. are among those projected to have upside as NBA All-Stars.
While landing the No. 1 pick and selections in the top 4 are coveted, there’s potential to land a difference-maker in this draft throughout the lottery and beyond.

Assuming the NBA’s new lottery reform/anti-tanking plan passes, the Wizards won’t be able to have the top pick in the 2027 NBA Draft.
But with this year’s pick now secured, it’s hard to imagine the franchise will be upset by that.

1. Washington Wizards: AJ Dybantsa, 6-9, BYU freshman forward
Dybantsa could become one of the NBA’s most unstoppable shot-creators. At 6-foot-9, he has a special blend of athletic tools with the way he bends, shifts, and explodes with the ball in his hands. Dybantsa led the nation with 25.5 points per game while breaking Danny Ainge’s 48-year-old BYU single-game freshman scoring record with a 43-point eruption. He gets to the rim at will, cooks in the midrange, draws fouls at a high rate, and displays point-forward potential. With these scoring skills, he’d be a perfect complement to Alex Sarr in Washington’s frontcourt and likely elevate existing talented ball-handlers like Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson. But what will determine Dybantsa’s upside is whether he can become a knockdown 3-point shooter, as well as a more impactful defender to take full advantage of his physical tools. But the native of Brockton, Massachusetts, has a tremendously high floor with his scoring skill alone.
At 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds, Boozer is the most polished player in the class. He scores from the post with both footwork and power, hits 40% of his 3s on high volume, and has enough handle to run offense as a point forward. He shifts between those modes based on what the defense gives him, and that adaptability led to a 35-win season at Duke and the Naismith Player of the Year. That’s why he would be so appealing to the Pacers. He could play with Ivica Zubac and Pascal Siakam, or with just one of them by sliding to center in certain lineups. The worry is that he’s not a vertical athlete and the foundation of all that production — overpowering smaller defenders — gets diminished against NBA length. Plus, he’s a modern tweener on defense, lacking the explosiveness and size to protect the rim full-time and the lateral quickness to switch onto guards. But Rick Carlislie is a tremendous coach — both at building winning systems and tanking teams too — so Boozer would be in good hands with him at coach, and Tyrese Haliburton at point guard. With the bloodline of two-time All-Star Carlos Boozer, the team that drafts him is betting that skill, adaptability, and a track record of winning at every level all lead to superstardom.
