Miami Heat franchise legend Dwyane Wade defended team president Pat Riley and the front office during an episode of his show, The Why Network, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, urging impatient fans to trust management’s decision-making ahead of the upcoming summer offseason.
The public defense followed a disappointing 43-win season where Miami was eliminated from the play-in tournament, causing the team to miss the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2019. Fans and media have heavily criticized Riley for failing to secure a superstar talent over the past two years to support team captain Bam Adebayo.
Wade pushed back against demands for immediate roster changes by highlighting the long-term success achieved under Riley, general manager Andy Elisburg, CEO Nick Arison, and owner Micky Arison during a segment he titled “Trusting the Miami Heat Front Office.”

“That’s what they’re going to do. But they’re not going to strike just because you, as a fan, is impatient and you want them to strike. They’ve been to the Finals seven times since I was drafted. They’re fine.” Wade added.

The team has remained stuck in the middle of the Eastern Conference standings, operating as a play-in tournament contender for the last four consecutive seasons despite previous NBA Finals appearances under head coach Erik Spoelstra.
“But we want them to strike,” Wade said.
Wade, who arrived in 2003, helped lead the Heat to their first championship in 2006 when they defeated the Dallas Mavericks in six games. Wade was named MVP after having one of the best Finals in NBA history.
“They’re fine but we want them to strike. We want Bam, we want these guys to get the help we feel like they need to be able to compete in the East. You see it open. You see opportunity. They’re not striking for no reason just because you want them to. All you fans are impatient.” Wade stated.
