Isaiah Thomas might not be the tallest point guard to ever step on the court and then some,. But the former Boston Celtics floor general had heart that dwarfed that of most players in the league as Celtics fans can certainly attest to. One of the more famous incidents one can point to in such a vein is the time IT got a tooth knocked out by Washington Wizards forward Otto Porter Jr. in Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Thomas opened up about that moment on an episode of his “Point Game” podcast. “Game 1, they start out 17-0, I think;17-1,” he recalled. “They talking their stuff. They’re talking big (expletive), bro. To a point, I can’t even say nothing. The first time in my life where I can’t even; it’s 17-0, I’m like, I can’t even talk my stuff because we’re getting blasted, bro – we’re getting blasted.”

“Then my tooth comes out,” continued The King in the Fourth, recalling the moment Porter’s elbow met his face.

“I think Game 1, my tooth comes out,” added the now-Celtics scout. “That’s when I knew it was all downhill in terms of my life, what I’m going through, on the court, what we’re going through. We’re down 17-0. My tooth comes (out) … I’ve got hit in my face thousands of times, man. Teeth never come out.”
Boston would eventually win the series and advance thanks in large part to some historic play from Thomas. And to think that was not even the last of his dental problems in the postseason – all heart, and then some.
