LSU gained its fifth player for the 2026-27 season

The Tigers have signed Austin Nunez, a transfer from the University of Texas at San Antonio, according to On3. Nunez is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard from San Antonio, Texas.

As a redshirt junior last season, he was his team’s second-leading scorer at 9.8 points per game. He also averaged 2.8 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 turnovers in 28.5 minutes. He started 21 of 22 games, shooting 30.4% from the field, 25.3% fromt the 3-point line and 88.5% from the free-throw line.

Nunez was a four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. He was the No. 71 player and the No. 14 point guard in the country, according to 247Sports. He started his collegiate career at Arizona State, under coach Bobby Hurley, when the program was still in the Pac-12. He played 28 games and averaged 4.5 points.

LSU’s newest addition then spent his sophomore season at Ole Miss under coach Chris Beard during the 2023-24 season. He appeared in 30 games and averaged 6.6 minutes per game. Nunez then transferred back to Arizona State, but only played four games. Nunez’s season in the Big 12 was cut short after having foot surgery. He averaged 11.3 minutes per game.

The other players the Tigers have added for next season are Kentucky transfer forward Mo Dioubate, Brazilian pro center Marcio Santos, Michigan State transfer guard Divine Ugochukwu and Kansas State transfer guard Abdi Bashir.

Outside of the five players Wade has added, he has made progress building his coaching staff. The program first announced Rick Stansbury as the associate head coach and Johnny Jones as an assistant. That was followed by the hire of former Georgia Tech head coach and NBA player Damon Stoudamire as an assistant.

Vernon Hamilton, a former NC State assistant and LSU director of player development under Wade, was the latest assistant hired.

Stansbury and Jones possess a wealth of experience leading programs, including in the Southeastern Conference.

Stansbury, 66, is the all-time winningest coach at Mississippi State, leading the program for 14 seasons starting in 1998. He had a 293-166 record with the Bulldogs. Jones, 65, is a former LSU player, assistant coach and head coach at his alma mater. He led the program from 2012-17, with a 90-72 record and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2014.
