After spending last summer recalibrating his physique, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic will now spend the offseason recovering from a hamstring injury, which kept him sidelined in the playoffs.

The Lakers were eliminated in the second round after getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles badly needed Doncic, but he could not recuperate in time.

Aside from his rehabilitation, the 27-year-old guard said he wants to spend more time with his two daughters in the offseason. He recently announced that he will not play for Slovenia in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in July.

On Wednesday, NBA insider Marc Stein said Doncic is firm on his decision.

“Sources close to Lakers star Luka Doncic have reiterated to @TheSteinLine that nothing has changed from his recent statement below: He is not playing for his national team this summer in FIBA World Cup qualifying to spend as much of his offseason as possible with his daughters,” wrote Stein on X.

Doncic has consistently represented Slovenia in international competitions, the latest of which was in the 2025 EuroBasket. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Doncic led the tournament in scoring with 34.7 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The six-time All-Star is amid a custody battle with his former fiancee, Anamaria Goltes, over their two daughters. Doncic and Goltes got engaged in 2023. They separated in March.
