Mark Pope needs to land Milan Momcilovic from the transfer portal if he pulls out of the NBA draft. He’s not only a terrific fit for the Kentucky Wildcats offense, he’s the star player they need to pacify a fanbase that is unhappy with the recent history of the program. Kentucky has money to spend, and according to Isaac Trotter of CBS, they’re going to need it.

Trotter was recently a guest on The Assist with Kyle Tucker, and spoke about the situation. In particular, he talked about the cost of adding Momcilovic.

I think the number for Milan (Momcilovic) is closer to 6 million dollars at Kentucky or maybe even higher than that, which is just bonkers.

It’s a big number, but it’s a number Kentucky needs to meet. The Wildcats obviously have some money to spend after missing on Tyran Stokes, and Pope needs a win. Adding an established star to pair with a talented backcourt and, hopefully, a potentially dominant center in Malachi Moreno would buy Pope some good will.

Momcilovic wants to play in the NBA, and won’t likely make a decision until after the May 27 deadline. If he does return to college, several teams are expected to make offers, including Louisville. So Pope and Kentucky will need to be ready to spend, and spend big.
