Malachi Smith started last year at Dayton before transferring to UConn, so he was bound for the 2026 NCAA Tournament no matter what. But with the Huskies, the point guard is heading to the Final Four. Smith has seen action in all 38 games, coming off the bench in all but two. The Bronx native is averaging 3.6 points in just under 16 minutes while dishing out 114 assists, including 22 in the first four NCAA Tournament games. Smith scored nine points Sunday against Duke.

An All-Big East Second Team selection for a second straight season, Ball heads to the Final Four after notching 12 points in the Sweet Sixteen against Michigan State and 10 in the regional final against Duke. His 12.9 scoring average ranks third on the team. His 71 3-pointers are second only to Alex Karaban’s 73. Could this be Ball’s last dance with UConn? A Husky since coming out of Brewster Academy (N.H.) in 2023, the Leesburg, Va. native has been discussed as a first-round pick in the NBA draft.

Demary has delivered as advertised. After two years at the University of Georgia, the point guard stepped into the starting lineup in Storrs last November and produced an All-Big East First Team season averaging 10.4 points and 4.5 rebounds while dealing a team-high 220 assists. His 45.5 shooting percentage from the floor is among the team’s best. He’s 107-for-133 at the line. Demary, the son of a former Arena League defensive lineman, was also named to the All-Big East Defensive Team.

Stewart stuck around Storrs, foregoing the transfer portal after last season, and was rewarded with time in 30 games and a trip to the Final Four. The Seattle native has averaged 4.3 points and 17 minutes. He scored a season-high 11 points in the opener against New Haven and put up 10 against UMass Lowell, Arizona and Texas.

A long-travelled collegiate road comes to an end in Indianapolis for the 6-8 forward from Berlin, Germany. UConn was Koroma’s fourth Division-I program in five years after stops at Iona, Salt Lake Community, Texas-Arlington and LeMoyne, where an 11.5 scoring average and 7.2 rebounding mark carried him to UConn. His lone tournament action so far came in the second round against UCLA.

As anticipated, a year after arriving from Michigan and being an understudy to Samson Johnson, last season’s Big East Sixth-Man Award winner has emerged as one of the top centers in the nation. Certainly in the conference: Reed was named to the All-Big East First Team. An old-school center with deft feet and soft hands, Reed led the Huskies in scoring (14.7.) and rebounding (8.8). His 62.1 shooting percentage from the floor also led the team. Reed is coming off a 26-point, 9-rebound performance against Duke.

There is indeed some devil in the native Tasmanian, who is a Dan Hurley favorite with his intensity. Furphy has seen action in 14 games in his freshman season, including against UCLA in the second round. Hurley has said, “I think he’s got a chance to have a great career here.”

Dan Hurley calls Elezaj “Razor.” The freshman center who came to Connecticut from Kosovo by way of Turkey cut his collegiate teeth in practice and from the bench. He’s seen action in just four games, all before Christmas.

The last of a dying breed: the college player who spends the entirely of his career at one school. Alex Karaban, a starter on the title teams of 2023 and 2024, is in position to win a third crown and is already one of just three players in NCAA Division I history with at least 1,700 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 made 3-pointers and 100 blocks. No one has won more games (125) or played more (149) in UConn men’s basketball history. The first player to be inducted into the Husky Ring of Honor in season, the Southborough, Mass. native ranks No. 6 on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,849 points. He was All-Big East First Team this season.

Now the owner of one of the most iconic shots in UConn (and NCAA) history, the freshman from Greenfield, Ind. was already in the midst of an epic rookie season before launching the Huskies past Duke and into the Final Four. The All-Big East Freshman Team selection came back from an early season ankle injury to average 11.9 points over 31 games. He hit for a season-high 26 against Creighton in February, the night he went 6-for-11 from 3-point range. The game-winner from the logo against Duke was the first of his five attempts to connect from beyond the arc in that game.
