UConn women’s basketball‘s 2026-27 nonconference slate is coming together as the Huskies added a new series to their lineup.
UConn announced Tuesday afternoon that it will begin a two-game series with Iowa next season. The Huskies will kick off the season by hosting the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Nov. 8, in Connecticut (venue TBD). UConn will then conclude the series in 2027-28 with a trip to Iowa City.
The Huskies are 7-4 all-time against the Hawkeyes. The teams last met in December at the 2025 Women’s Champions Classic, with UConn winning 90-64 behind 50 combined points from Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd. Before last season’s meeting, UConn and Iowa met in the NCAA Tournament twice in the last six years, including the 2024 Final Four in Cleveland. Then, led by senior sensation Caitlin Clark, the Hawkeyes defeated the Huskies 71-69 to advance to their second appearance in the national championship game.
When UConn and Iowa meet in November, Husky seniors KK Arnold and Ashlynn Shade will be the only two players who remain in college who played in the teams’ 2024 national semifinal meeting. Both were freshman starters and played over 35 minutes against the Hawkeyes. Arnold recorded 14 points, five assists, five steals and two rebounds while Shade chipped in seven rebounds, five points, two steals and one assist.
The last time UConn hosted Iowa in Connecticut was during the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. UConn won 86-48 and outscored Iowa 40-16 in the second half thanks to 22 points, six assists and five steals from then-senior Sue Bird. The Huskies are 3-1 when hosting Iowa in Connecticut. Their only home loss to the Hawkeyes was on Nov. 29, 1990, when they fell 58-41 in Storrs.
UConn is 1-1 when playing Iowa in Iowa City, having last done so on Nov. 21, 1999 (UConn won 73-45).
The Huskies now have five of their 2026-27 non-conference matchups officially scheduled. UConn has yet to announce dates for its games against Notre Dame (away), Louisville (away), Ohio State (away), LSU (neutral) and Tennessee (home).
