Unrealistic Mock Trade Sends Cooper Flagg to Spurs for Draft Capital originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Antonio Spurs, with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, have more options than almost anyone. With a versatile superstar to build around, a war chest of draft picks, and plenty of young talent, the Spurs could cash in for an established player or continue to build through youth.

The Spurs holding their second overall pick and selecting Dylan Harper seems like the most realistic course of action, although the possibilities are endless.

ESPN’s Zach Kram proposed a deal that Spurs fans will love, although its viability is worth questioning.

Full Mock Trade Details:

Spurs receive: No. 1 overall pick

Mavericks receive: Picks no. 2 and 14, 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), return of 2030 pick swap

Somehow, this deal might be worse than the Luka Doncic trade for the Dallas Mavericks.

Cooper Flagg is not a generational, once-in-a-lifetime player like Victor Wembanyama, but he is expected to be an elite two-way player right away, with the ability to change a franchise’s fortunes. Pairing him with Wembanyama would ruin the NBA for the next several seasons, and if he lives up to the hype, the Spurs can hit the ground running.

Aside from the second overall pick, the Spurs don’t give up any of their own assets in this deal, making it even better for San Antonio.

While Dallas certainly needs a point guard as Kyrie Irving recovers from an ACL tear, Flagg is the type of player that you select no matter what, and he could very easily put Dallas basketball back on the map after their disastrous 2024-25 season.
