Last night, big news came down for the Kentucky Wildcats and other college basketball programs, as Milan Momcilovic, one of the top players in the transfer portal, announced that he withdrew from the NBA Draft and will return to college basketball.
It’s big news for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats, who are looking to add one more piece to the roster. Momcilovic would be exactly that for Kentucky, as he would be arguably the best shooter in college basketball next season.
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged nearly 17 points per game for Iowa State last season, shooting 48.7 percent from three (best in the country) on 7.5 attempts per game. For a team with a big question mark when it comes to outside shooting, Momcilovic would be a valuable addition.
It seems like Kentucky, Louisville, and St. John’s are the main contenders for Momcilovic. Arizona is also being talked about, but it seems like they may have been a little later getting heavily involved and could have some ground to make up.
Not only is it a big recruitment for Mark Pope in terms of building a roster that can contend next season, but he’s also in a recruiting battle with Louisville, as well as Rick Pitino.
It’s unknown when Momcilovic will make a decision, but it’s hard to imagine he’ll draw this recruitment out too much longer.
Adam Zagoria is saying that it could come as early as this weekend.
We’re nearing the end of May, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if an announcement is made in the coming days.
