It has been nearly nine months since Pablo Torre claimed the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard used an allegedly fraudulent endorsement deal to circumvent the NBA’s salary cap.
Since then, Torre won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting, the Clippers played the entire 2025-26 season and Leonard earned the seventh All-Star selection of his career. But the NBA has yet to reveal the results on the investigation it has been undergoing on the Clippers and Leonard.

Although there is reportedly no longer an expectation that Leonard’s contract with the Clippers will be voided as a result of the investigation, the results of the investigation will be important for the offseason.
NBA insider Ramona Shelbourne said she expects the NBA to withhold the results of the investigation until at least July or August. Shelbourne said Torre winning a Pulitzer Prize adds pressure to the investigation, and the NBA is unlikely to reveal the results during the playoffs.
“I think the bar is quite high now because Pablo Torre won himself a Pulitzer for his investigation. [The NBA’s] really got to make sure, they really got to get this right,” Shelbourne said on ESPN on Friday.
“… They’re not going to drop the results of this in the middle of the NBA Playoffs. That’s such a huge distraction for the rest of the league. When nothing came out before the end of the season, I was like ‘Ok, we’ll talk to you in August, July.’ And who knows, maybe they’ll take even longer,” Shelbourne added.

Outcome of Investigation Will Impact Clippers’ Offseason Moves
The Clippers said the franchise is innocent and welcomes the investigation. However, if Torre’s reporting turns out to be true, Los Angeles will have to face some punishments that could impact their future.
For example, the Clippers could lose draft picks as a punishment if found guilty of circumventing the salary cap. Leonard is entering the final year of his three-year, $149.5 million contract with the Clippers, so he is due for an extension.
The Clippers want to keep Leonard around but it would be best for the franchise to wait until the results of the investigation are revealed before making any big moves with Leonard.
