The Chicago Bulls continue their head coaching search as the month of May winds down. After a few rumored names were confirmed to be candidates, the Bulls are casting a wide net for their next head coach.
So far, Chicago has zeroed in on multiple assistant coaches. But after seeing Sean Sweeney heading to the Orlando Magic, we can cross that name off of the list. However, we can add a new name and it’s someone who has NBA experience but is currently coaching at the college level.

The latest news regarding the Bulls coaching search comes Friday night. ESPN’s Jamal Collier reported that the Bulls are “casting a wide net for their head coaching search, which includes interest and early conversations with BYU coach Kevin Young, sources told ESPN.”

That’s one of the first real “wow” names in this Bulls’ coaching search solely because they have focused on current assistants from around the league so far. Now, they are going to the college level.
However, Young has more experience than just being at BYU over his career.
Young was a lead assistant with the Phoenix Suns from 2020-24 before getting hired at BYU. He left Phoenix to pursue a career as a head coach and landed the BYU job. A year later, he landed the top overall recruit in the class with AJ Dybantsa committing. Dybantsa is now set to be the top overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft in just a month.
With Young having experience at the NBA level, this isn’t a bad move for the Bulls. The next steps are to wait and see the interest that Young has in terms of the Bulls job.
