The Knicks are firing Tom Thibodeau in a shocking move to begin their offseason.

The move comes on the heels of the Knicks making the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years, a series they lost to the Pacers in six games.

According to The Post’s Stefan Bondy, the decision was made by team president Leon Rose, with a feeling that it is in best interest of getting to next level of winning a championship.

“Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans. This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we’ve decided to move in another direction,” Rose said in a statement. “We can’t thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach. He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also to tremendous success on the court with four playoff berths and four playoff series victories. Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward. Tom will always be a part of our Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

In five seasons with the Knicks, Thibodeau led them to a 226-174 regular-season record, and they made the playoffs in four of his five seasons at the helm.

When it came to the postseason, however, a 24-23 mark with the Knicks didn’t cut it.

Despite the 2024-25 Knicks reaching heights they hadn’t in a quarter century, a failure to adequately adjust to the Pacers’ pace of play ended their run early.

When star guard Jalen Brunson, whose dad is on the coaching staff, was asked in the aftermath of the Knicks’ elimination about Thibodeau’s job status, the All-Star was incredulous.

“Is that a real question right now? You just asked me if I believe he’s the right guy,” Brunson said. “Yes. Come on.”

Brunson’s longtime runningmate and Thibodeau favorite was quick to react to the news.

“Forever Grateful,” Hart wrote on X. “Thank You!”
