As the Spurs‘ biggest star, Victor Wembanyama will be at the top of the scouting report. Knicks head coach Mike Brown is hoping for the best because he knows it will be tough to stop the Frenchman due to his elite combination of size and skill.
Mike Brown knows the Victor Wembanyama matchup will be a challenge
At 7’5″, Wembanyama is the biggest matchup nightmare for any team. He is that tall, but he moves like a wing player. Defensively, he dominates the paint like no other, as he intimidates anyone who dares to enter the paint.
Offensively, Wembanyama has a diverse skill set as he can easily dunk over everyone in the paint thanks to his height and reach. However, he also has the ability to play at the perimeter and hit step-back three-pointers.

The Knicks are familiar with the Spurs already, having beaten them twice this season. However, this Spurs team has become battle-tested throughout the Playoffs.
They are coming off two competitive series against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder. They were quite physical, and if the Knicks plan on doing so, Wemby is already well aware of how to counter that.
“You just hope a guy like that, you can find ways to make him work. You pray. I had some buddies that are monks, I can’t go to them because he’s got that part of the religion all wrapped up,” Mike Brown said ahead of the NBA Finals.

It seems Brown has something planned when playing against Wemby. He has plenty of options, as OG Anunoby did well in the matchups, while Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson have the size to keep up and be physical.
This NBA Finals will certainly be a must-watch for the Wembanyama matchups alone. However, the rest of the players will also be ready to step up, be it the Knicks’ stars or the Spurs’ supporting cast.
