It might surprise people to hear that Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White has a real shot at making the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame given the University of Colorado – Boulder native has yet to make even a single All-Star game thus far in his career. But White has earned plenty of accolades on the defensive side of the court, and more importantly has not just his NBA title with the Celtics under his belt, but a gold medal with Team USA at the Olympics.

The Colorado native recently shared what it was like to win that hardware with a star-studded US National Team roster that saw him play a bigger role than star teammate Jayson Tatum on the “Run it Back” podcast. “It was an unbelievable experience,” recalled White.

“I joined the team late, and then I think the Olympics are so crazy because you’ve got like a month, two months to figure it out,” he explained, “and we all come together and … have to sacrifice and being a part of team with legends in this game and people that are going to be Hall of Famers and (are) some of the best ever (who) touched a basketball.”

“It was definitely special to be a part of that group,” he added. “But like it happened so quick — I think that’s the biggest difference is like NBA championship, you restart in September and then you don’t win until June and so it’s like a long grind and then Olympics it’s especially when you get to knockout stages like one game and it it it’s over with.”

“So, especially those Serbia and … France games, those were pretty unbelievable games to be a part of and to witness it, it was it was great to see greatness firsthand.”
