Ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors have been monitoring a plethora of options. While insiders have speculated that Golden State could trade draft capital for Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers or Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors are also rumored to be interested in acquiring first-round picks.
According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, Golden State attempted to acquire two first-round picks (Nos. 14 and 18) belonging to the Charlotte Hornets. “A couple of weeks ago, the Warriors made a call to the Charlotte Hornets to inquire about whether there was a deal to be had where they could acquire both their 14th and 18th picks.”
Although the Hornets had no interest in such a deal, Siegel continued on saying, “The Warriors are said to be open to moving down in this year’s draft for the right price, and the idea of adding another pick in the late teens in addition to this 11th pick is not out of the realm of possibilities.”
While holding on to their picks or acquiring more wouldn’t help Golden State add a star, it permits them to add young cost-effective talent with high upside.
