The Orlando Magic are putting the finishing touches on a deal that will bring Sean Sweeney, assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs, to the 407 to captain the Magic according to the Associated Press.“We’re excited to welcome Sean (Sweeney) to the Orlando Magic family,” said President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman. “Sean brings a tremendous work ethic and a high degree of intensity that set the tone for everything he does. Sean’s attention to detail and his ability to communicate and teach the game clearly stand out. He’s grounded in competitiveness and accountability, while also embracing a modern, creative approach to coaching.” Weltman said.This comes after the Magic parted ways with Jamahl Mosley in April following their first-round elimination in this year’s NBA Playoffs.Sweeney will finish the season on the Spurs’ bench before packing up and heading to the Sunshine State. With him, he will bring the experience he has gained from coaching superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and, most recently, Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio. The Spurs are currently one win away from the NBA Finals as he closes out another successful season with the team. Sweeney was also crucial to the Dallas Mavericks’ run in the 2024 NBA Finals.
